Jessica's Inspired: Feathers and Fringe

From intern Jessica:

The roaring twenties (more affectionately termed "The Golden Age 20's") will always be known for big bands, lavish parties, art deco, prohibition, feathers and fanfare. People become enchanted with glitz, glamour and a time identity that has been capsuled forever. With movies like F. Scott Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby (with of course our favorite charmer Leo, what girl could refuse an on screen reunion with that hunk?), Chicago and the long running Boardwalk Empire, bringing the rowdy and rebellious characters of the past back to the forefront with modern zing... how could the twenties not make a sexy comeback? Women of the twenties secretly were anything but demur, channeling a mysteriousness and fashion forward presence all their own; its no wonder millenniums want a piece of that vintage glamour.

If you're in search of that perfect place for your prohibition era wedding there are many beautiful, well preserved options. For the traditional bride and groom, locations such as Victorian homes, complete with beautifully manicured gardens, and lavish details make them an excellent photographic opportunity as well as a great way to wow your guests; but with other options for the more light hearted and gregarious couples who may prefer the carnival and gambling backdrop of gangster hubs like Atlantic City, or even the secretiveness of a rare speakeasy; these era locations cover a wide range of desires for even the most opposite of couples.

If a traditional roaring speakeasy is your taste, look no further then the Bar Oysters sign above Maison Premiere; a local Brooklyn Speakeasy. The friendly staff is a blast from the past, decked to the nines in vintage garb and the boasted space is definitely no less stunning and leaves nothing to disappoint. Celebrate with a champagne and cocktail reception in the lush gardens and famed oyster bar. Decorate your tables with silver mint julep cups filled with peach, white and wine colored flowers- adding some feathers for elegance and spice. Complete the look by dressing the chair backs with gorgeous crystal chair decor that even Gatsby himself would be envious of.

Bring that vintage glamour and glitz to your wedding by donning your own Anny Lin gown; all eyes in the room immediately drawn to you with the beautiful rose embroidery and feathers- enough to stop any mobster (including your own) in his tracks. Enhance your look with vintage crystal and pearl chandelier earrings and an art deco headband from LottieDaDesigns that will have all the women gushing. Don't forget your wedding party, who will look fabulous dancing the Charleston in peach colored Sue Wong fringe cocktail dresses!

No twenties reception is complete without musical pieces to cut a rug to like good ol' Louis Armstrong; so for a swinging good time Professor Cunningham and His Old School Band are a perfect fit; this five piece ensemble offers your guests a fantastic rendition of the sounds of the era.

In lieu of the traditional wedding cake, spice things up and give a whimsical nod to the "green fairy" by serving absinthe pana cotta presented in a festive champagne flute. End your special evening by giving prohibition the bird with favors of Hudson Whiskey.
