Notes from an Intern: First Detailing Appointment

From intern Shekinah:

This week at Cloud Nove was so much fun! I had the chance to sit in with my first final detailing appointment with Regina and Patryk and I learned a SO much.  I don’t even know where to start! I guess I should start off by saying (and this shouldn’t even come as a surprise to me anymore) that there’s a LOT to think about that you wouldn’t expect to think about. As a wedding planner, you have to be on top of EVERYTHING and if there was a word for “more than everything”, that you have to be on top of that too.

Regina and Patryk (side note: both of them are probably the most efficient note takers ever) were great with our client and took care of every single detail. Regina’s ability to rationalize all of the logistics, what would work, what small things might need to be tweaked so that the whole day works and the bride is happy and relaxed, coming up with Plan A,B, and C or more so there are no issues (or at least WE have a way of dealing with them instead of the bride) – it just left my head spinning (in a good way).

It also made me (yet again) realize why you need so much experience as a wedding planner. You have to know how to take the ridiculous amount of loose ends and unknowns and somehow tie them into a perfect package—and it’s not just knowing where the centerpieces go and what time the limo needs to pick everyone up. You need to know if all the contracts are taken care of, if one vendor’s contract conflicts with the times of another vendor’s contract, the vendors personalities, the bridal party’s personalities, I mean the list literally goes on and on. It’s not about coming up with a last minute solution if something goes awry. It’s about anticipating that potential issue and dealing with it before a last minute solution is even needed.

Despite a whirlwind of an evening though, I have to say I love it and I’m kind of hooked to say the least- which is good because we have about a BILLION more to get through in these next few weeks :)
